Beyers Lake

For the 2nd wkd of July/my 1st furlough day (Friday) we went north to Beyers Lake in Denali State Park where I had a public use cabin reserved for a 3 day wkd anyways.  We scored with the weather and bugs!  We had stayed at this cabin before during both summer and winter but never had a view of Denali.  We had it watching over us the entire time.  Sunny and in the 80’s, with few bugs until about 10 pm when it would cool off enough for them to come out.  We canoed across the lake to access the cabin, did a day hike around the lake and Ben had a great time running around and exploring.  He also seemed infatuated with boats and wanted to be in them.  Sunday PM we met up with friends at Adam and Amy’s house.

Late June July 4th wkd

For the Last wkd in June we went car camping near Seward with our friends the Larsens.  We did a kiddie friendly short half day float on the upper Kenai R.  The kids enjoyed it.   The next day we did a short canoe on one of the Trail Lakes, it was Bens 1st time canoeing.  He loved that too.  For the July 4th wkd we stayed at a cabin in Sterling and did a day trip to Homer for the 4th of July.  We enjoyed the 4th of July parade in Homer.  The next day we hung on the Kenai beach and enjoyed the off season fishing quiet!  The next day we attended the Forest Fair in Girdwood.

Port Heiden in June

For two weeks in mid June I was in Port Heiden for work.  Attached are some photos during my tour.  One night after work during a minus low tide I went clamming and got a bucket of soft shells and cockles.
