Two weeks ago in Nuiqsut and Barrow AK

Two weeks ago I went to Nuiqsut, a small bush village along the Colvile R on the north slope of Alaska.  West of Prudhoe Bay, east of Barrow.  Its pop 350 but obviously modernized as oil and exploration outfits pass through regularly and this part of AK has lots of Oil money.  They had running water and a “hotel”.  I was there for meetings.  The temps were unseasonably warm (about 0 degrees F) so I went for some walks with co-workers.  After 2 nights there we headed to Barrow for an afternoon.  On my flt back to Anchorage sat next to Nina Kempel, former Olympian skier from AK.

Cat Skiing in the Chugach near Girdwood

In liu of no Teleneck wkd this past wkd, we kept our eyes and ears open for an opportunity to latch on to a Cat ski trip via Chugah Powder Guides of Girdwood, AK.  Sat AM the four of us drove down to Girdwood to asses the snow situation.  Conditions up high sounded favorable for powder skiing.  We decided to go for Cat skiing.  Big payoff!  Incredible weather and nice new snow.  We made 9 runs.   Very satisfying!
Many of our group of 11 were up from Utah.
Tomorrow to Nuiqset, way up north between Prudhoe Bay and Barrow.
Utah in a month and  half!

Superbowl Wkd

I spent Superbowl Sunday enjoying a powder day at Alyeska with Bob and Adam.  After skiing we sort of watched the 2nd half of the game.  Couldnt hear any of it with active toddlers running around excited about the snow accumulating outside.
