Yesterday afternoon on Flattop

Yesterday (Sat) we attended a class. After the class I took advantage of the sunshine and went up Flattop after our first measurable snow in the mountains.  There was 3 inches at the parking lot and drifts up to 1.5 feet toward the top.  Winter is creeping down the mountains!  eek!

Trout Lake backpacking

This weekend four of us went backpacking on the Kenai Pen. up the Resurectio Trail from Cooper Landing area to Trout Lake Cabin.  Superb sunny warm weather, spectacular autumn colors.  Lots of wine too.  I believe a good time was had by all.

Fall colors

Friday was so beautiful that I decided to blow off cleaning my garage and go chase moose with fall colors.  Didnt see any moose, just autumn foliage.

Laborday Wkd

Sat Deb and I climbed Peak 2, then attended a friends wedding here in Anchorage.  Sun we did a 19 mile bike ride to Powerline Pass.  Monday I canoed the Eagle R with Melissa and Randy.  After our float we Apres canoed with Nino, Laurie and Lilly.  A nice variety of activities to enjoy the great weather over the 3-day wkd.  I start my new job with the corps Monday!  After having the better part of 14 weeks free to play during the best summer weather here in AK since I moved here 11 yrs ago, its going to be a rude awakening Mon AM!

Catherines visit earlier this week

Earlier this week my sister Catherine came for a 2 day visit from HI.  She wanted to take advantage of a military hop (free flt) to AK and me not working yet.  Thur we did a rd trip down toward Seward to do a day hike up Harding Icefield Overlook.  It was approx 4 miles up with incredible views and tons of wildlife to see along the way.  First, once she arrived we had to go to Humpy’s where Catherine spent some time catching up with childhood friend Mary.
Catherine got lucky seeing moose, Mtn Goats, a black bear, and even Beluga whales as we drove back to Anchorage.  She also got to see Denali in the distance.  All in less than 24 hrs.
Tomorrow I spend my last week headed to Wonder Lake in Denali NP with the goal of photographing the autumn colors in the tundra and Denali itself.  I start my new job with the Army Corps the next Monday.  Then I’m limited to being a wkd warrior again.
