Wednesday I took Mom and Dad to Girdwood to ride the tram to the top of the ski area, then to Portage Lake to look at more retreating glaciers.  Friday night to Humpy’s to enjoy their halibut chunks!   Yum!

Last week with my folks

Last weekend we hosted a Solstice BBQ, Tue I took Mom and Dad to Matanuska Glacier where we walked around on the glacier for a while.

Earlier today from Homer

Just returned from Homer Halibut fishing with Dad.

Yesterday’s fish

Here are some pics of my 41 inch King I caught yesterday at Ship Creek.

Mom and Dad get here tonight for 2 wks.  Tomorrow we head down to Homer to fish for Halibut.

Nenana River Trip/Geology class

Attached are some shots from a Geology of the Nenana Canyon trip I did last wkd.  The Nenana R. flows northward through the AK Range.  We spent Sat checking out the geology from the road and hill tops.  That night I drove into Denali Park to enjoy the midnight sun and scenery.  Sun. we floated the Nenana R. from Mckinley village to the “clean” coal burning plant in Healy.  Adfter the Sun float I drove back to Anchorage enjoying more great weather and views!  This seems to be the best summer here so far.  Glad I have it off to enjoy!

Last week in Beluga

Last Wed -Fri I was in Beluga doing some well sampling and measuring stream discharges for PACRIM.  Chuitna Coal is a coal mine prospect.  AS I waited for my plane Dick Bass was dropped off.  We chatted for a while as he told me what drove him to climb the highest 7 summits on each of the 7 continents.  A woman leaving him did it.  He was quick to state that he wasn’t a climber, he had the $ and the lungs for high altitude.  He credits his love for talking for his lungs “full of hot air”.  I guess he’s a billionaire now.
